What I would tell those who are looking to use the Hawaii Employers Council is that they provided a lot of resources to me over my career in a leadership role to the human resources department that I've led in the past and to the labor relations departments that I did here today at Matson. So, there is definite value added to any organization looking forward to some assistance in the areas of labor relations and human resources.
Most important to me was they understood that HR not only wanted to do it right, do it legally, but really do it with a heart. I had someone here at HEC who said, this is what you could do, and here's what is sound, but don't forget, these are people that you may want to hire again later; these are people that you may become colleagues with later but let's do what's best for them too and not just looking out for the company not just looking out for the employee, but it was both hand-in-hand, and it was really important to us at that point.

As part of our commitment to our employees and enhancing our workplace experience, we collaborated closely with Dawn Mitchell of Hawaii Employers Council’s Surveys and Compensation Services to develop a tailored employee satisfaction survey. We were thrilled to get a response rate of over 95%, which yielded valuable feedback that led us to make several improvements. A year later, we worked with Dawn again to conduct a follow-up survey, which reflected a significant improvement in the areas where we focused our attention. I see Hawaii Employers Council as being a tremendous resource, especially for small to medium sized companies in Hawaii and especially for a company like Koloa Rum who's on a neighbor island, the island of Kauai. The availability and access to industry experience, expertise and skill is vitally necessary for companies such as ours.
